MS/HS Bulletin February 17

9th grade - please bring your computers to physical science today.

The dates and locations for the public meetings concerning the proposed building project at Groton Area MS/HS have been finalized.  Encourage your parents to attend the meetings.
Monday February 27th – Columbia American Legion – 7:00 PM
Monday, March 6th – Bristol Community Center – 7:00 PM
Thursday, March 9th – Groton Community Center – 7:00 PM

Next week is National FFA Week.  During this week, we will be having a few activities.
Dress Up Days for FFA Week
Tuesday: Pajama Day
Wednesday: Blue and Gold Day
Thursday: Country Day
Friday: Camo Day

Hat Day will be Tuesday - Friday.  You can pay $1 per day to wear a hat.  Pay your $1 in the library before school to a FFA member and get a sticker to put on your hat.

Tuesday
Scavenger Hunt - There will be FFA emblems hidden around the school.  If you find one, take it down and give it to Mr. Franken for a prize.

Wednesday
Ag Olympics at 3:00 for junior high.

If you are applying for National Honor Society, don't forget applications are due by Friday,
February 17 @ 3:30 p.m.   No late applications will be accepted.

Applications due March 6 for swimming pool lifeguards, baseball/softball coaches, groundskeepers, ticket takers.  Visit City of Groton, 209 N Main or call 397-8422.

Time Change…….Seniors--there will be a mandatory meeting regarding senior privileges on Tuesday, February 21 at 9:15 a.m. in the library conference room.  Please make arrangements so that you are at the meeting.  If you will be absent, you must meet with me before.  Remember, early privileges are set to begin on February 24th.  If you have any unexcused absences or time spent in ISS you will not receive privileges on the 24th.  In addition, you must have paid for your senior shirts and have all of your senior pictures submitted before you will have privileges.  If you have questions about any of this, let me know.  Thanks!  Dr. Schwan

SD National Guard is sponsoring a Dodgeball Tournament on February 22 for ages 15 – 25.  For more information check out the posters hanging around the school. 

JH band members please sign up to work for Split Pot on Friday. There are a few spots open still. The sign up is on the front music door.

Table Talks on Wednesday.

8th grade students will participate in the 3M Engineering Expo on Tuesday, March 7th in the library conference room. Students will be divided into two groups, one group will go from 8:30-9:30 and the second from 9:30-10:30.
Data Match sales will continue through the week during lunch.  Cost is $1.

 National FCCLA Week is Feb. 13-17, our local chapter will be celebrating by holding several events this week.
Mon-Fri - Lollipop Sales after school in the FACS room - you can pay and take them
Tuesday- Friday - Lollipop Sales at lunch - send them to a friend with delivery at the end of the day on Friday!
Mon-Fri - Pennies for Patients Challenge - jars located in the office
Friday - FCCLAers - wear an FCCLA shirt

Saturday, February 18 is the 6th Annual – Lee Schlagel Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Clark High School.  Groton boys’ will be one of the teams playing.  There will be a lunch starting at 11:00 and a silent auction and raffle items.

Quarve Quackers 6th Annual Relay for Life Pie Auction on Saturday, February 18 at Todd’s Tavern in Amherst.  Supper at 5:00 p.m.   Pie auction at 7:00 p.m.  All proceeds to the Marshall County Relay for Life.

Summer registration for dual credit is now open.  Applications are on the counter in the office.  Please see Dr. Schwan for questions.

No School Monday in honor of President’s Day.

Grade 12:  Reminders from English 12 yesterday:
  1.   All seniors who qualified for the Regents Scholar should see Mrs. Sternhagen if you did not check your name on the Regents Scholar list on Thursday.  The Regents Scholar award goes to students who complete 4 math, 4 science and 2 foreign language with no final grade lower than a C and a B grade point average. 
  2. Be sure and get the FAFSA done by March 1st so you are eligible for loans and grants for tech or college!  www.fafsa.gov
  3. If you are planning on attending a 4-year SD public school, you will need an 18 in English and a 20 in math or a 3 or 4 on the Smarter Balanced ELA and Math in order to be placed into entry level college English and Math.   The SD College Ready Curriculum can help if you do not meet these minimum scores – see Mrs. Sternhagen. 
  4. More local scholarships will be handed in on March 1st!  Keep working!
  5. If you were absent yesterday or still need to hand in local scholarships see Mrs. Sternhagen as soon as possible!
Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the April 8 test is due online by March 3, 2017 .  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Groton but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: June, Sept. Oct. and Dec.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.
