MS/HS Bulletin September 30

Reminder to the HS Band pep band for this Thursday night is cancelled.

 The October FCCLA meeting will be next Tuesday during advisory in the FACS room.

MS/HS Bulletin September 22

Lunch line order will change on Monday:  1st lunch 8, 7, 6          2nd Lunch  12, 11, 10, 9

Come to the 5th Quarter event Friday night after the football game at the Methodist Church.  There will be Fun, Fellowship, Faith, and Food.  Activities will go until 11:00pm.  Grades 6-12 are welcome.

After the parade the 5th Quarter will be playing Slip & Slide Kickball on the Northeast end of the football complex.  Come and play!  2:30 - 4:30

The FFA will be hosting a dunk tank after the parade on Friday.  Stop by and try to dunk one of your teachers.

Joyce Yexley is a Groton band alumni (class of 1971) and she is doing a book signing (“Not my Plan” is the title) on Friday at the Olde Bank Floral from 11:00am-12:30 pm. She is willing to donate some of her proceeds to the Band Program. I am going to try to put up some flyers tomorrow. More information can be found out about Joyce’s story at:

Remember to turn in your Breast Cancer t-shirt orders today.  If you forgot they can be turned in tomorrow.  Help support a good cause.  Our Breast Cancer Awareness Night will be on October 20 at the VB game with Northwestern. 

Sweet G's Inflatables is looking for volunteers to monitor the inflatables after the Homecomig parade.  This is a great opportunity for any student in grades 6-12 looking for volunteer hours or just to do a good deed.  The sign-up sheet is in the office.  If you have any questions let me know.

Students age 18 and over, please come help us raise some cash on Friday following the homecoming parade.  The Aberdeen Chrysler Center is hosting a Dodge Gridiron Challenge west of the football field from 2:00 until 6:00 PM where they will donate $20 for every test drive up to a maximum of 250 test drives.  Help us make 250!  You must be 18 years of age.

Final class meetings Wednesday during advisory to finalize Homecoming float plans.

FCCLA is selling temporary tattoos and eyeblacks for Homecoming this week during lunch.  Each tattoo or eyeblack set is $1.00.  All proceeds go towards FCCLA Groton Community Fund which will help to fund a new playground equipment at the baseball complex!

There will be a middle school dance following the football game until 11:30 pm on Friday.  The cost will be $5 which will cover the cost of drinks and snacks.

Grades 11-12:  US Senate Youth Competition and Scholarship competition:  Opportunity to win a free trip to Washington, DC for two SD students.  GHS will select two students to take the test and send the results to the state.   Only students who hold an elected or appointed office in student government, civic or educational organizations can apply.  Test covers government and history.  Stop by the GO if you are interested.  Deadline Friday, 9/18/15. 
Grade 12 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards:  If you have performed community service in the past year you may want to fill out this award/scholarship.  One student will be recognized from Groton and will go on to compete statewide and possibly nationally.  Go to http://spirit.prudential.com and click on “Apply Now”.  Once you have completed the application go to the “Certification” page and enter Mrs. Schwan’s name and email as the certifier – Anna.Schwan@k12.sd.us     Please print out the completed application.  The local deadline is going to be early – October 16, 2015 – again you must be certified so please complete by the local deadline.  We can only submit one so PRINT out the application and bring it to Mrs. Sternhagen.  
Grades 9-12 Scrubs Camp –  October 12, 2015 at Presentation College (deadline Sept. 25 but may fill sooner) or October 7th at Hurton.  Learn about health care careers including psychologist, EMT/fire rescue, medical assisting, chiropractor, pharmacy, physical therapy and wound care.  Huron Careers are behavioral health, EMT / fire rescue, medical assisting, biomed, physical therapy, surgery technician, and medical coding.  http://scrubscamps.sd.gov/camp-locator/.  Application requires a recommendation from a teacher or counselor and a parent signature.
