MS/HS Bulletin February 29

HS Band report at 4:00 pm to play pep band today. Reminder you are only playing three pre-games, no halftimes!

Congratulations to the Groton Prismatic Sensations for receiving 1st runner up in Vermillion on Saturday

FBLA meeting for those students attending the Spring Leadership Conference on Thursday, March 3rd during advisory in Ms. Lingbeck's room.

Girls’ basketball meeting in Mr. Wanner’s classroom on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.   Bring your uniform, warmups, and practice jerseys on a hanger.  If you want to turn your uniform in earlier take them to Mr. Wanner’s room. 

State MathCounts practices Tuesday and Thursday morning, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

At the Boys’ Regions Basketball Tournament no passes or activity tickets will we accepted.  Adults are $6 and students are $4.  Groton will play Webster in the 2nd game.  Twenty minutes after the end of the first game.  First game starts at 4:30 p.m. 

Be sure to have all your belongings out of the JH boy’s locker room and the varsity girl’s locker room.  Other schools will be using those locker rooms for the Regions Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Grade 12:  In order to be eligible for the best financial aid package you must meet your school’s financial aid priority filing dates.   Most SD schools have a priority date of March 1 but some schools (U of  M for example) may have earlier deadlines.   Be sure and go to www.fafsa.gov  
 
Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the April 9, 2016 test is due online by March 4, 2016  (this Friday).  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  Come to Mrs. Sternhagen’s room during advisory if you would like to work on registration.

Please bring a pen or pencil with you to the gym.

National FFA Week.  For FFA week we will have a dress up day each day of the week.  Students can also pay $1 a day to wear a hat.  There will be a FFA member in the library before school starts each day to collect money and give students a sticker as an indication that they paid to wear a hat.  It is still up to the classroom teacher if they allow the hat to be worn in the classroom.  All clothing and hats must be school appropriate.  The dress-up days will be as follows:

Lunch today will be chicken patty and French fries.

Show Choir is performing a Murder Mystery Dinner on Saturday, February 20.  Tickets may be purchased from any Show Choir member or Mr. Swanson. 

Seniors, you must meet with Dr. Schwan on Wednesday at 3:15 in the music room.  The meeting is regarding senior privileges and your presence is mandatory; attendance will be taken.  If you will not be in school on Wednesday you must meet with me at 8:15 Thursday morning in the library conference room.

Student Council will visit advisory today to deliver Data-match results.  Results are $2, exact amount only.

Grade 12:  In order to be eligible for the best financial aid package you must meet your school’s financial aid priority filing dates.   Most SD schools have a priority date of March 1 but some schools (U of  M for example) may have earlier deadlines.   Be sure and go to www.fafsa.gov  
 
Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the April 9, 2016 test is due online by March 4, 2016 .  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Groton or Aberdeen but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: June 11, Sept. and Oct.   ACT sign up help is available from Mrs. Sternhagen.

Seniors, you must meet with Dr. Schwan on Wednesday at 3:15 in the music room.  The meeting is regarding senior privileges and your presence is mandatory; attendance will be taken.  If you will not be in school on Wednesday you must meet with me at 8:15 Thursday morning in the library conference room.

Student Council will visit advisory on Tuesday and Wednesday to deliver Data-match results.  Results are $2, exact amount only.

State MathCounts meets Thursday, February 18, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

JV and Varsity Boys' basketball players, basketball cheerleaders and stats need stop in the office to pay $5 and write down how you want your parents’ names announced at Parents Night. 
Parents Night for Boys' is Friday, February 19.

3M will be sponsoring activities for the 8th grade class as part of their Engineering Week.  Representatives from the corporation will be in the building on February 24th beginning at 12:30 pm.  Students with last names Barse-Kyar will report to the library conference room from 12:30-2:00, and students with last names Marzahn-Williams will report to the library conference room from 2:00-3:30.

State MathCounts practice Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Congratulations to the Groton MathCounts team of Isaac S, Kayla J, Noah P, and Kaycie H for earning second place in the team portion of the South Dakota Northeast Chapter MathCounts Competition in Brookings on Saturday, thereby advancing to the state competition in Pierre on Saturday, March 12!  Also, congratulations to Isaac Smith for being awarded the sixth place trophy in the countdown round and to Kayla J for placing eighth in the individual portion of the event! Excellent work, mathletes!

Cherry Berry Yogurt will be sold at the basketball game tonight by the Junior Class.  Toppings include Oreos, fudge striped cookies, gummy bears, and chocolate and caramel toppings.  Come and enjoy some delicious yogurt!  


All cheerleaders need to stop in the office to pick up a t-shirt.  You will need to pay $5.65 to Mrs. Morehouse.

Grades 11-12:   Reminder of things to do for the ACT Test on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 in Aberdeen.   Bring your admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators, pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle.  Be sure and show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early.  It might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules.  No caps are to be worn during testing.  No beverage will be allowed in the testing area.  No cell phones are to be used at any time during test (including the break). Testing should conclude around noon.  Those who are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m.  Be sure and do the practice test prior to the test.  Stop by the School Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.
