MS/HS Bulletin January 25

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the one act! They qualified yesterday to move on to the state competition next week in Aberdeen. In addition to being awarded a superior play, Thane Henschel, Erin Smith, AnneMarie Smith, Tylan Glover, Maddy Schuelke, and Mitchell Koens all received superior acting awards!!

One act cast and crew – we will have a brief meeting in Mrs. Honerman’s room right after school today! Please attend. We will also have lunch tomorrow, so please bring one with you!

At the Groton vs Clark/Willow Lake Basketball game on Friday, Clark is hosting a Burger Feed.  For $5 you can get a burger, bar, chips and a drink starting at 5:00 p.m.

Grade 11:  Youth Business Adventure:  Applications are due Jan. 26 to Mrs. Sternhagen.  YBA is a 1 week program held in June in which students learn about economic, management, and market-oriented issues.  It is a leadership experience in which all students (regardless of what career interest area) will benefit.  Cost is $250 but financial assistance is available if needed.  The application was emailed to you on Jan. 4.
 
Grade 12:  Financial Aid Information Night (FAIN) folders were passed out to all the students.   Please fill out and submit your FAFSA soon using your 2015 tax information.

South Dakota 4-H seeks 4th, 7th and 9th grade writers to enter the South Dakota 4-H - Quotes to Live by Essay Contest. The Quotes to Live By Essay Contest is a fun, easy and effective way to enhance your school's or 4-H club's character efforts. The contest is open to all South Dakota Schools, Home Schools and Individual 4-H members.  Fourth, seventh and ninth grade students may enter the contest. Cash prize awards are given to the top five places at each grade level. First Place - $200; Second Place - $150; Third Place - $100; 4th Place -- $75; and Fifth Place - $50.  Plus, teachers of First Place winners will receive $100 to put toward character education resources. There will be Table Talks on Wednesday.

FCCLA will be sponsoring Bake Sale at the Girls Basketball Game vs. Roncalli on Friday, Jan. 20.  Come get some tasty treats!

The girls’ basketball game scheduled at Sisseton has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 26. 

South Dakota National Guard is sponsoring a Dodgeball Tournament on January 18.  There are fliers hanging throughout the school for more information.

Grades 10-11:  You and your parents are invited to a presentation on Getting Ready for your Future on Feb 9th from 6-7 pm in the computer lab.  Jennie Thompson from Great Lakes Financial will be here to teach you and your parents about scholarships and financial aid.

Grade 12:  FAFSA Lab – On Thursday, February 9th at 7 pm during Parent Teacher Conferences, Jennie Thompson from Great Lakes will be available in the computer lab to work with parents on filling out the FAFSA.   Student and parent tax information from 2015 is required along with social security numbers, bank account info, and asset information.  It would be a good idea to get started with the FAFSA prior to meeting with Jennie and then ask her any questions you may have about finishing the process.  You and your student will also need identification numbers (FSAID) in order to complete the FAFSA.

MS/HS Bulletin January 6

The January FCCLA Meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 10 in the FACS room during lunch.  Lunch will be served!

Drama club students: If you sold coffee and did not get your order forms and money to Mrs. Honerman yesterday, please do so ASAP today!

One Act students – please check your school email. You have been sent a copy of the rehearsal schedule. It is IMPERATIVE that everyone is at the rest of our rehearsals!

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the February 11 test is due online by January 13, 2017 .  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: April, and June.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.

Sanford Research welcomes rising seniors (current HS juniors) interested in careers in research to spend their summers in a total-immersion biomedical research experience through the Sanford PROMISE Scholars program.  Applications are due January 15 of a student’s junior year of high school.  Students work alongside scientists in a mentor lab and present their efforts at the Sanford Summer Research Symposium.  PROMISE Scholars earn a $2500 scholarship and 3 undergraduate credits from USD throughout their experience.  http://www.sanfordresearch.org/education/k12students/sanfordpromisescholarsprogram/ for more information

MS/HS Bulletin January 5

Drama club coffee orders are due TODAY, January 5. Please make sure you hand in your order forms AND money to Mrs. Honerman ASAP!

There will be a meeting for those drama club students attending the Chanhassen trip during lunch on Friday, January 6 in Mrs. Honerman’s classroom. Please bring lunch with you!

The One Act is looking for backstage people to run sound, lights, and help with props and costumes. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Honerman immediately!


Table Talks will start Wednesday, January 11.  

The Girls basketball games Groton vs Redfield/Doland have been POSTPONED to FRIDAY, FEB 10TH! 

There will be a Women in Science conference for Middle School and High School girls on March 8th in Aberdeen. If you are interested please see Ms. Seeklander for registration information. Thank you.

Yearbooks are on sale for $55.00.  Please order your yearbook with Mrs. Morehouse.

Grades 11-12:  The following college representatives will be in the School Counseling Office to visit with students.  Please make arrangements with your teachers.

Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the February 11 test is due online by January 13, 2016 .  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: Feb., April, and June.   See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.
