MS/HS Bulletin December 19

MathCounts meets Tuesday morning, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

The Girls basketball games Groton vs Redfield/Doland have been POSTPONED to FRIDAY, FEB 10TH! 

The JH Girls B-ball games with Red/Doland will be played Tuesday, Dec 20th before the Boys JV/V games vs B/H.  Start time will be 4pm. 

Lunch Line Order will change today:  1st Lunch 7,6,8     2nd lunch 12,11,10,9

If you plan to attend the Elementary Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21 please be aware of School Board Policy:  ***Students are not allowed to attend regular school activities which are held during the school day unless they are watching a sibling, they are accompanied by a parent, and are not on the ineligibility list. All students meeting the aforementioned criteria and who are planning on attending must have their parents notify the office at least one day in advance. Any violations will result in an unexcused absence. This includes any K-12 classroom or co-curricular activity, unless it is approved by the principal. All work must be completed prior to being excused.

FCCLA Fruit, Meat, & Cheese orders will be in on Monday, Dec. 19.  FCCLAers - make arrangements to get your orders picked up on MONDAY and delivered within 24 hours.

There will be rehearsal for the one act, “Shakespeare for Kids,” today from 5-8.

There will be a Women in Science conference for Middle School and High School girls on March 8th in Aberdeen. If you are interested please see Ms. Seeklander for registration information. Thank you.

MS/HS Bulletin December 15

Rehearsal for the one act, “Shakespeare for Kids,” will meet tonight in Mrs. Honerman’s room from 3:30-5:15. We will NOT rehearse tomorrow (Friday, December 16) or Saturday (December 17). Rehearsal will then resume on Monday (December 19) from 5-8. Thank you!

Congratulations to Anne Marie Smith and Tylan Glover for placing 2nd yesterday in Interp and Micah Poor for placing 2nd in Oratory at Tuesday's oral interp and debate contest.

Grade 11:  Summer Research program.  Apply by Jan. 15Sanford Research welcomes rising seniors (current HS juniors) interested in careers in research to spend their summers in a total-immersion biomedical research experience through the Sanford PROMISE Scholars program.  Applications are due January 15 of a student’s junior year of high school.  Students work alongside scientists in a mentor lab and present their efforts at the Sanford Summer Research Symposium.  PROMISE Scholars earn a $2500 scholarship and 3 undergraduate credits from USD throughout their experience.  http://www.sanfordresearch.org/education/k12students/sanfordpromisescholarsprogram/ for more information and link to the application.

MS/HS Bulletin December 7

PAC will be sponsoring a pork loin dinner during the double-header on Friday, December 9th.  The meal will begin at 5:00 pm and will consist of a sandwich, chips, a bar, and lemonade.  The price will be $6/plate. Juniors are reminded to bring $5 and a pan of cut 2x2 bars to the office by Friday at 3:00 pm.

BBB Memory Mates will be Monday, December 12th after school.
JH Girls’ Basketball and Cheerleaders Memory Mates will be taken on Tuesday, December 13.  JH at 3:30 with Cheerleaders to follow.
Memory Mate pictures will be taken on Wednesday, December 14th:  Wrestling at 3:30 and GBB to follow. 

      There will be a drama club meeting on Wednesday, December 7 during lunch. Please bring lunch with you. We’ll be talking about upcoming events, including logistics for the Chanhassen trip!

Grade 11:  We will be starting the online sign-up process for the ACT on Tuesday during English 11.  If you are interested in taking the ACT, please bring your computers to class. 
                                                   
Grades 11-12:   Reminder of things to do for the ACT Test on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 in Aberdeen.   Bring your admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators, pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle.  Be sure and show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early (7:45).  It might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules.  No caps are to be worn during testing.  No beverage will be allowed in the testing area.  No cell phones are to be used at any time during test (including the break). Testing should conclude around noon.  Those who are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m.  Be sure and do the practice test prior to the test.  Stop by the School Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.

Auditions for the high school one act, “Shakespeare for Kids!” are Monday, November 21 in Mrs. Honerman’s room at 5:00. If you are unable to attend, please let Mrs. Honerman know BEFORE so she can schedule another audition time for you. Please bring a list of all conflicts between November 28 - February 4, including Christmas break. Anyone interested in being a part of the one act – including working backstage – needs to attend auditions. Please let Mrs. Honerman know if you have any questions!

Family Night is set for Monday, November 7th from 4:00 -7:00 pm in the gym/arena.  Free meal from 5:00 – 6:30 (pizza, breadsticks, fruit, and brownie).  Post-secondary representatives will be available.  The All-School Play, The Blithe Spirit, will be held in the old gym immediately following Family Night. 

We are very excited to inform you that the Groton Youth Rally will feature the Bruce Crevier family and their Spin-tacular Basketball program called Champions Forever, at the Groton Area High School Arena. The Rally will be on Wed., Nov. 16th at 7pm. Doors will open at 6:30pm.

Halloween Carnival sponsored by the GHS FFA Chapter on Sunday, October 30 from 3:30 – 5:30 at the GHS gym.  There will be games, face painting, raffle and hay rides.  Game tickets are 50 cents and Raffle tickets are $1.  Hay rides are free.  Please bring a bag for candy.  Money will be donated to a children’s charity.

The Groton Lions Club is sponsoring a poster contest for all students who will be ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, 2016.  The contest theme is “A Celebration of Peace.”  All artwork must be no smaller than 13 inches by 20 inches and no larger than 20 inches by 24 inches and must not be matted or framed.  All media are accepted.  No three dimensional entries will be accepted.  The use of lettering or numbering on the front of the poster is not allowed.  Artist signatures should be written on the back of the poster.  Posters must be submitted by Friday, October 28 for judging.  If you have any questions or wish to participate, see Mr. Schwan.

Flu shots will be given today at the elementary from 1:00 – 5:30 p.m.  Print off a consent form at grotonarea.com or pick up a copy in the office.  ** Students that ride the bus need to sign up in the office for a ride to the elementary for your shot.  Meet in the office at 11:40 a.m.   If you don’t ride the bus you will need to get your shot after school.    School is dismissed at 1:15 today. 

Groton Youth Rally presents Family Night of Champions Spin-Tacular Basketball Show on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Groton Arena.  Tickets are $5 at the door or at DQ.  Family passes are $20. 

Trick or Treater’s are invited to the Golden Living Center on October 31 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Grades 11-12 ASVAB:  The ASVAB test will be given on Thursday morning, October 27, 2016, at 8:30 am.  If interested, please see Mrs. Sternhagen.  This is a free test for academics, careers, and military entrance.
