MS/HS Bulletin February 10, 2014



Juniors and Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher there will be a National Honor Society meeting today during advisory in the conference room by the library.  Please check in with your advisory teacher before you go to the meeting.

 

JO Volleyball players - Your signed forms (including the folder) need to be turned into Mr. Helvig as soon as possible.  See Coach Helvig if you need forms to fill out.  There will be a meeting after school in the computer lab on Wednesday, February 19 right after school.

 

 February 10-14 is National FCCLA week, our chapter has several events and fundraisers planned to celebrate the week including:

*Crush cans that will be sold during lunch Feb 10, 11, and 12 and will delivered on Feb. 13.

 

*Pregnancy Belly Fundraiser - Put your extra change in the jar of your favorite male teacher who you would like to see wear the pregnancy simulation belly for one day!  The top two teachers with the most money will wear the belly for a whole day!  You can begin filling the jars on Feb. 5-11, they will be in office!

 

All proceeds will go towards Groton Community Improvement Projects.

 

 Good luck to the girls’ basketball team tonight against Roncalli.  Kiwanis is sponsoring a Potato Bar Feed.  They are serving from 5:00 – 7:30 for $6 per person.

 

Grade 11:  Please bring your computers to class on Monday for registration.

 

Grade 10:  Please bring your computers to class on Thursday for registration. 

 

Grade 12:  In order to be eligible for the best financial aid package you must meet your school’s financial aid priority filing dates.   Most SD schools have a priority date of March 1 but some schools (U of  M for example) may have earlier deadlines.   Be sure and go to www.fafsa.gov  NOT fafsa.com

 

Grade 11 and 12: Testing – ACT:  ACT registration for the April 12th  test is due online by March 7  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You can test in Groton or in Aberdeen.  Be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Juniors please see Mrs. Sternhagen.

 

Grade 12:  Reminder of the qualifying sub-scores needed for 4-year college placement on the Act (20 in math, 18 in English).   See Mrs. Sternhagen about the Accuplacer www.collegeboard.com/accuplacer

 

Grades 9-12:  Reminder to all students who have chosen the Graduation Pathway – your parents will need to sign an exemption at the high school.  Please see Mrs. Sternhagen to set up a time during conferences.

 

Grades 10-11:  On Thursday, Feb. 13 during conferences from 7-8 pm, Jennie Thompson of Great Lakes will speak to you and your parents about financial aid and scholarship planning.    Invitation letters were mailed to you and your parents – plan to attend as this is a great way to learn about the things you will have to be doing in the senior year!
