MS/HS Bulletin September 25



A pair of football shoes was left on the JH football bus last night.  Claim them in the office. 

 

Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge is having Blue Goose Day on Sunday, October 6 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.  A bald Eagle will be released at 1:30 p.m.   There is a poster with more information outside the office. 

 

Homecoming Shirt order forms need to be turned into the office, WITH PAYMENT, by the end of school today.

 

Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirt orders are due in the office tomorrow.

 

Anyone interested in ordering boys’ golf shirts for $13.   Contact Maddie C or Mrs. Madsen.  All sizes are available. 

 

Students, please remember that if you receive an unexcused tardy for 5th period, you will lose open lunch for a week.  If you choose to leave anyway, you'll lose another week.  Be on time!!

 

Lazy Farmers drop off your 4-H book in the office.

 

Seniors will be attending the Business Symposium on Monday, September 30th @ Northern, leaving at 9:00 and returning at 3:00.  You are responsible for $3 for the Taco Bar lunch. 

 

Sanford Child Services is offering  Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training on Saturday, October 12 from room 8:30 – 12:30.  Students in the 7th grade and older can register by calling 262-8505

 

Reminder that class dues need to be paid and activity tickets need to be purchased right away with Mrs. Stauch.

 

MS/HS Picture Day is Friday, September 27.  If you did not get an order form stop in the office.

 

Homecoming week is September 30th-October 4th.  This year's theme is Board Games (think old-school...Monopoly, Candy Land, Sorry, etc.). 

Dress up days are as follows:

Monday--Toga Day

Tuesday--Nerd Day

Wednesday--Costume Day

Thursday--Celebrity Day

Friday--Spirit Day (Black and Gold Day)

*Please remember that our dress code is still in effect during Homecoming week!

 

If you have an idea for a business, you should submit that idea and win some money!  The deadline for the Big Idea competition is October 31st.  1st place prize is $1000 and a $1000 scholarship to Northern or Presentation.  See Mrs. Schwan for details.


Sioux Valley will be having a meal before the football game on Friday from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.   Home smoked and pulled pork sandwiches served with BBQ sauce, baked beans, potato chips and Powerade with cookies and bars for $6.  $3.50 for an extra sandwich.

 

 

Grades 10-12:  Scrubs Camp for students interested in health care careers.  Attend one of several camps www.scrubscamps.sd.gov .  Aberdeen is October 15 – fill out form and mail by ­­­­­­­Oct. 1.   Form requires a recommendation and parent signatures so fill out early.  Focus careers this year are nursing, dental assisting, occupational therapy, EMT?paramedic, cRNA – nurse anesthetist, 2 more careers

 

Grade 11:  All 11th graders will attend Post High Planning Days on Thursday, October 3 from 8:30 – 12:00. 

 

Grade 12:

1.      Testing – ACT:  ACT registration for the October 26 test is due online by September 27.  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You can test in Aberdeen or Groton.  Be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.

2.      Wendys High School Heisman – seniors can apply – based on academics, athletics, leadership.  First 25,000 to complete the application get a $10 Wendys gift card.  www.wendysheisman.com.   Fill out the application online.  It must be verified by me – put me as the Reviewer (Jodi.Sternhagen@k12.sd.us).  In order to insure that the verification process goes smoothly, please complete the application by 9/27/13.

3.      Ivy League schools - Students and Parents - Visit with representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn and Stanford in Sioux Falls on September 25 at 7:30 pm or in Fargo on September 26 at 7:30 pm.  Stop by and see Mrs. Sternhagen.  www.exploringcollegeoptions.org

 

Grade 10:  If you are taking both the PLAN and the PSAT, you can bring one check for the total of $26.95 ($12.95 for PLAN + $14 for PSAT) made payable to GHS
