MS/HS Bulletin February 23

Congratulations to the following Junior High students for winning the FFA CDE’s yesterday.  Mr. Franken will get you your prize:

Anyone interested in playing Jr. Teeners, Teeners, or Legion Baskeball please sign up in the office by March 1. 

ICU will meet in Mrs. Honerman’s classroom today and Wednesday.

During FFA week, on Monday - Thursday, junior high students may participate in some FFA contests during advisory in the gym.  Students must check into their advisory and get permission from their teacher to come down to the gym.  There will be a sign in/sign out sheet when you come into the gym.  There will be prizes given for the winner in each of the contests.
Please bring a pen or pencil with you to the gym.

National FFA Week.  For FFA week we will have a dress up day each day of the week.  Students can also pay $1 a day to wear a hat.  There will be a FFA member in the library before school starts each day to collect money and give students a sticker as an indication that they paid to wear a hat.  It is still up to the classroom teacher if they allow the hat to be worn in the classroom.  All clothing and hats must be school appropriate.  The dress-up days will be as follows:

Wednesday - Camo Day
Thursday - Bib Overall Day
Friday - Blue and Gold Day

Paper plates will be used at lunch all week.  Lunch on Thursday will be chicken patty and French fries.

There will be a Junior Class meeting in the band room Tuesday during advisory.  Do not go to advisory; attendance will be taken at the meeting in the band room.

State MathCounts meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Table Talks on Wednesday.

3M will be sponsoring activities for the 8th grade class as part of their Engineering Week.  Representatives from the corporation will be in the building on February 24th beginning at 12:30 pm.  Students with last names Barse-Kyar will report to the library conference room from 12:30-2:00, and students with last names Marzahn-Williams will report to the library conference room from 2:00-3:30.

Seniors remember to turn in 5 senior pictures to Mrs. Hanten.  Early senior privileges will start on March 2nd.  No pictures no privileges.

All overdue books need to be turned in or renewed as soon as possible. 

Good luck to the girls’ at the Region basketball game at Britton tonight.  You will be dismissed at 2:09.  The following cheerleaders will also leave at that time – Allison W, Jennifer F, Jasmine S, Erika H, Hannah L.  The theme for the game tonight is I Hate Winter.

Grades 11-12:  The following college representatives will be in the School Counseling Office to visit with students.  Please make arrangements with your teachers.

Grades 11-12:  ASVAB Testing (military and careers) will possibly be offered on Friday, March 18th in the morning to interested students.   Please let Mrs. Sternhagen know if you are interested in taking this test.
Grade 12:  In order to be eligible for the best financial aid package you must meet your school’s financial aid priority filing dates.   Most SD schools have a priority date of March 1 but some schools (U of  M for example) may have earlier deadlines.   Be sure and go to www.fafsa.gov  
 
Age 16 or older job:  Golden Living Center is looking to hire a part time dietary aide:  4:30 – 7:30 pm weekdays and weekend shifts.  Work in dining room during and after meals.  Apply online http://www.goldenliving.jobs/   Also looking for a part-time CNA – certified nurse assistant.  Great way to learn about nursing careers.
Grades 11-12  ACT:  Registration for the April 9, 2016 test is due online by March 4, 2016 .  Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Groton or Aberdeen but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Other test dates are: June 11, Sept. and Oct.   ACT sign up help is available from Mrs. Sternhagen.
