MS/HS Bulletin September 8

Senior band students please come to the band room during advisory today to start putting together marching band uniforms.

First yearbook meeting will be on Thursday, September 13 in room 304 during advisory.  Check in with your advisory teacher before you go to the meeting. 

Groton FBLA K5 Color Run/Walk is October 3, 2015.  Registration forms are in the office. 

There will be a short meeting for anyone interested in oral interp during Advisory in Mrs. Gonsoir's room (room 308) on Wednesday, September 9. Please check in with your advisory teachers first. If you cannot attend the meeting and are interested, please see Mrs. Gonsoir next week.

If you are absent any part of the school day be sure that you check out and check back in at the office.  Thank you!

Carnival of Silver Skates registration form are in the office.  Registration and Costume Measuring will be Sunday, September 13 or Monday, September 14 at the warming house.

ICU during advisory will be held in the library conference room from now on.  Your advisory teacher will let you know if you are on ICU and after attendance is taken in advisory you are expected in ICU immediately.  Remember, you are here until 5:00 or until you get the work finished.

Student Council elections will happen on Tuesday, September 8th with the first meeting on Thursday, September 10th during advisory.  Freshmen and sophomores, you are extremely under-represented on the sign-up sheet.  If your class wants a voice you need representatives!

FCCLA will have their first meeting of the year on Wednesday, Sept. 9 during advisory.  New members are welcome!

Students wanting to go out for DI please fill out the registration form in the office and return it by September 11th

Girls volleyball pictures Wednesday Sept 9th @ 3:00.
Cross country (girls and boys) Thursday Sept 10th @ 3:00.
Boys golf Thursday Sept 10th approximately 4:00 at the golf course.
Junior High Volleyball pictures will be September 22nd at 3:00.

There is a need for OST help at the Elementary.  If you are interested contact Mr. Schwan at the Elementary office.

School, state, region, and national winners are selected.   Fill out the application online.  It must be verified by me – put me as the Reviewer (Jodi.Sternhagen@k12.sd.us)   Please make sure your GPA (unweighted), class rank and ACT scores are accurate.   Unweighted GPA’s are found on your transcript.  In order to insure that the verification process goes smoothly, please complete the application by Sept. 29, 2015 as the site is too busy later in the week.    www.wendysheisman.com
Grades 11-12:  US Senate Youth Competition and Scholarship competition:  Opportunity to win a free trip to Washington, DC for two SD students.  GHS will select two students to take the test and send the results to the state.   Only students who hold an elected or appointed office in student government, civic or educational organizations can apply.  Test covers government and history.  Stop by the GO if you are interested.  Deadline Friday, 9/18/15. 
Grade 12 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards:  If you have performed community service in the past year you may want to fill out this award/scholarship.  One student will be recognized from Groton and will go on to compete statewide and possibly nationally.  Go to http://spirit.prudential.com and click on “Apply Now”.  Once you have completed the application go to the “Certification” page and enter Mrs. Schwan’s name and email as the certifier – Anna.Schwan@k12.sd.us     Please print out the completed application.  The local deadline is going to be early – October 16, 2015 – again you must be certified so please complete by the local deadline.  We can only submit one so PRINT out the application and bring it to Mrs. Sternhagen.  
Grades 9-12 Scrubs Camp –  October 12, 2015 at Presentation College (deadline Sept. 25 but may fill sooner) or October 7th at Hurton.  Learn about health care careers including psychologist, EMT/fire rescue, medical assisting, chiropractor, pharmacy, physical therapy and wound care.  Huron Careers are behavioral health, EMT / fire rescue, medical assisting, biomed, physical therapy, surgery technician, and medical coding.  http://scrubscamps.sd.gov/camp-locator/.  Application requires a recommendation from a teacher or counselor and a parent signature. 
The Big Idea Business Plan Competition:  Check your email (sent to you Tuesday, 9/1/15).  Or go to http://www.bigideasd.com/  Tell the judges about your best business idea to compete for cash and scholarships. 
SDSU Senior Day:  Saturday, September 12, 2015   www.sdstate.edu/seniorday  Attend major fair, talk to admissions, free barbeque and admission to football game
Grade 12 ACT September:   Reminder to those that registered – Saturday, Sept. 12 is the ACT test is Aberdeen.  See Mrs. Sternhagen if you have questions.
Grade 12  ACT October:  Registration for the October 24 test is due online by Sept. 18.   Register at www.actstudent.org   and pay with a credit card.  You will test in Aberdeen or Groton but be sure to list Groton as your home school.  Remember you must upload a photo to register and then print the admission ticket.  Fee waivers are available – stop by the GO.  Test dates are:  October 24 and December 12.    ACT sign up help is available from Mrs. Sternhagen. 
Grades 11-12:  The following college representatives will be in the School Counseling Office to visit with students.  Please make arrangements with your teachers.
