The Groton Lions Club is sponsoring a poster contest for all students
who will be ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, 2016. The contest theme
is “A Celebration of Peace.” All artwork must be no smaller than 13
inches by 20 inches and no larger than 20 inches by 24 inches and must
not be matted or framed. All media are accepted. No three dimensional
entries will be accepted. The use of lettering or numbering on the
front of the poster is not allowed. Artist signatures should be written
on the back of the poster. Posters must be submitted by Friday,
October 28 for judging. If you have any questions or wish to
participate, see Mr. Schwan.
Any high school student interested in being a tutor for middle school students during 3rd hour or 11:46 – 12:14. See Mrs. Sternhagen or Ms. Seeklander.
Flu shots will be given on Thursday, October 27. Print off a consent
form at grotonarea.com or pick up a copy in the office. Your completed
consent form along with a copy of your Medicaid or insurance card needs
to be returned to the office by Friday, October 21.
Groton Youth Rally presents Family Night of Champions Spin-Tacular
Basketball Show on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Groton
Arena. Tickets are $5 at the door or at DQ. Family passes are $20.

Grades 11-12 ASVAB: Any student interested in
taking the ASVAB on Thursday morning, October 27, 2016, please see Mrs.
Sternhagen. This is a test for academics, careers, and military
entrance and is given free of charge.
Grades 11-12: Reminder of things to do for the ACT
Test on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 in Groton or Aberdeen. Bring your
admission ticket and a driver’s license (photo ID), 2 calculators,
pencils with erasers, a watch, and possibly a water bottle. Be sure and
show up at the testing location at least 15 minutes early (7:45). It
might be a good idea to review last minute formulas and rules. No caps
are to be worn during testing. No beverage will be allowed in the
testing area. No cell phones are to be used at any time during test
(including the break). Testing should conclude around noon. Those who
are taking the writing assessment should be done by 12:45 p.m. Be sure
and do the practice test prior to the test. Stop by the School
Counseling Office if you need an extra copy.
Grades 10-11: PSAT testing is this week for those who
registered and paid. Please make every effort to be present as the test
can not be given at any other time. On Monday, Oct. 17 during 5th
hour, we will do the pre-administration session (grade 10 in Miss
Seeklander's room and grade 11 in the conference room). You will return
to 5th hour when finished. The PSAT test will be given on Wednesday,
October 19 in the same rooms periods 1-4. Bring pencils and a
calculator. Your phone must be off and in a box up front. Reminder
that there are two math sections – one without a calculator - and that
there are math questions that must be gridded. Please do the practice
test!

Grade 12: Scholarship Night will be held on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 from 6:45 – 7:45 in the high school computer lab. Please plan to attend with your parents.
Grade 10: Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership application
essay due to Mrs. Sternhagen by Friday, October 14. Please turn in
your essay today if you were gone Friday.
Grades 11-12: The following college representatives
will be in the School Counseling Office to visit with students. Please
make arrangements with your teachers.
